Today, exactly six months ago, Honourable Judge Scott R. Sparks, on December 9, 2015 dismissed all of Darland's claims without cost or fees.

I would like to begin by thanking Ingrid Butler, Deputy Clerk, Kittitas County Clerk's Office for making available to me electronic copies of Honourable Judge Scott R. Sparks' decision, dated December 9,2015 in case # 04 -2 - 00411 - 2 

Excerpts from Honourable Judge Scott Sparks decision:

"Nothing establishes a need to have a trial about anything."

"The case should be dismissed without costs or fees."

Seattle attorney Daniel P. Mallove represented defendant SPUD.

Ellensburg attorney Douglas W. Nicholson represented plaintiffs MichaeL L. And Myrna Darland.

How frivolous were the Darlands' claims?

Regardless of how frivolous, true to form, I was notified that Darland has appealed the decision of Judge Scott Sparks to the Washington State Court of Appeals.

That is Darland's typical Modus Operandi even when he knows he is absolutely wrong.

Darland will keep running up the legal fees and costs until he wins by default. Darland's tactic is simply to exhaust his opponents' financial resources.

For example, Darland kept prolonging my solid case against him for 5 years! Finally my lawyer and I were literally too sick and I became too broke to go on fighting for my rights. Darland 'won'.

In this instance, case #  04-2-00411-2, that Darland and I initially brought against the Snoqualmie Pass Utility District has been going on for 12 years!

By now, all aspects should have been long exhausted. Honourable Judge Scott R. Sparks is right on: 

"Nothing establishes a need to have a trial about anything." 

Enough is enough.

But Darland wil go on and on and on...

Although unlikely, should Darland prevail in front of the Washington State Court of Appeals, could this case end up being decided by the Washington State Supreme Court?

In that event, would it not be logical for the Washington Supreme Court to not only affirm Judge Scott Sparks decision but additionnally to award all costs and fees unnecessarily accumulated over the past 'x' number of years to defendants?

In the light of what both Ellensburg attorney Douglas Nicholson and Darlands knew from the start, this would only seem fair.

Doug,

As your past initial client you are well aware that I personnally paid you lots of fees to defend my best interests.

Subsequently acting as the joint attorney for myself and Michael Darland you received a lot more fees as a result of me introducing Darland to you so you could represent us both.

We have already discussed your conflict of interest and unethical behavior when, for reasons of your own, you chose to prefer Darland's interests over mine.

Running scared about your conflict caused you to:

1. Make false and conflicting statements in mails you adressed to me and others.

2. Leave the law firm of Cone Gilreath.

3. Join the law firm of Lathrop etc.

4. There in a devious manner you continued to represent Darland behind stage while using attorney Slothower to front for you.

5. Once you and Slothower got me out of the picture you promptly reappeared front stage as Darland's attorney! Your immediate reappearance confirmed what was already clear to me.

6. Now that you are acting solely for Darland, it is not surprising to me that the motion you brought forward in front of Judge Sparks claiming a refund of assessments from the District to Darland has been denied and the case dismissed without costs or fees.

7. But, Doug since you know that you have a sucker on the line, in the person of Michael L. Darland, you will stay true to your style. You will go on and on and on milking Darland for all you can.

8. With that primary goal in mind, you must have encouraged and advised Darland to appeal Judge Scott R. Sparks ruling in front of the Washington State Court of Appeals. 

9. Doug, keep chalking up your fees or else you may be asked to leave Lathrop also.

So, pardon me for chuckling when I note that you and Darland have learnt nothing from your past lessons.

Can you not recall Darland's loss, while being guided by you, in front of the Washington State Bar Association? 

And your loss again in front of that body's Board of Appeals.

Indeed, in his decision, Jonathan Burke Esq. of the Washington Bar was most polite not to call Mike Darland and his star witness William Popp Sr. Of William Popp and associates outright liars. A copy of that decision below might refresh your memory:

Comments in that opinion might also help you recall and recognize that, although you denied it to save your hide, you were our joint attorney.

As your past client, in order to help you to avoid receiving any further slaps in the face by way of lack of credibility and unethical behaviour, I would still like to offer you some friendly free advice based on what I know, on what Darland and you already knew and on the fact that Judge Sparks obviously saw through your changing arguments designed to fit different circumstances.

Reading through the lines of the Honourable Judge Scott R. Sparks' decision, it is crystal clear to me that in his Solomonic wisdom, Judge Sparks hit on the main issues already known to you, Darland and I for over a decade.

In spite of that knowledge, should you be successful in appealing the decision of the Honourable Judge Scott R. Sparks and should the case end up in front of the Washington State Supreme Court, be sure, that time round, to present all available uncontroverted facts to that panel of Judges. Such a new comportment coming from you may restore your credibility.

For the time being, based on my long background history with this case I could hear the bat crack as Judge Sparks hit some home runs.

In the past, when we worked together we used to pow wow together over issues. May we consider and discuss some of the home runs of Judge Sparks together. 

Claim for refund of assessments paid to SPUD.

Did the Honourable Judge Scott Sparks see through yours and Darland's character all right when he wrote:

"Having exhausted their ability to obtain adequate access to this property... Plaintiffs resort to the only remedy they can presently conceive of: a money judgment against defendants for the value paid of past assessments, plus interest. This request is put forth with full knowledge that plaintiffs ( Michael L. and Myrna Darland) themselves never paid a penny towards those assessments..."

Knowing you and Darland as well as I do, I am not surprised that you would try your shameless luck while also trying to fool yet another Kittitas County judge. But, this time round, that Judge is obviously no fool. 

Judge Sparks knows the law and he also knows how to read through people and when to dismiss their pipe dreams. (No pun intended).

Hard facts:

1. Did you and Darland not both recognize at the onset that Darland had no standing to bring any claims against the District? Need I furnish you with some of the documents you prepared for us to refresh your memory?

2. Did you and Darland not wholeheartedly initially share and concur with Judge Sparks' opinion before you brazenly embarked on that stale claim by yourselves?

3. Is it not the fact that I had paid the assessments, the very reason, why Darland and you insisted from the word 'go' that I join in the suit as a Plaintiff in order to give it standing?

4. Was Darland not riding piggy back then? 

5. Did you try to provide a donkey's ride to Darland this time round?

6. In your opinion, what change would validate your claim and give Darland standing now?

7. Is it not because Darland recognized in 2004 that he had no standing that in answer to one of his Interrogatories Darland wrote: "I agreed to assist Mr. Leclezio with his legal claims against the District...." (See last para p.7 made available through link below)

5. Is that not why judge Michael E. Cooper, when he granted our motion for a Partial Summary Judgment against the District made sure to specifically name me as one of the Plaintiffs when he spelt out his decision? Indeed THE ONLY PLAINTIFF present who had standing because he had paid the assessments together with Miller?

6. Is it not because I had standing that back then Cooper could grant his Decision in our favor? (See para 2 p. 2) In that decision, did Judge Cooper not go through great lengths to quantify my efforts with the District and what brought about my and Darland's claims as JOINT PLAINTIFFS and its successful conclusion?

Reading through the lines of Judge Sparks decision, it is clear that he weighed all of the above carefully before delivering his verdict.

That verdict underscores the fact that Darland and you cannot have your cake and eat it.

That should lead us to another question that begs being asked. 

Since I, THE PLAINTIFF  who had paid the assessments, am no longer part of case # 04-2-00411-2, Would you Doug not concur with me that the granting of our partial Summary Judgment by judge Cooper on April 29, 2005 should also be overturned and dismissed?

Should the Settlement Agreement reached with the Snoqualmie Pass Utility District, signed by Darland and I, as a result of Judge Cooper's decision not be rendered Null and Void and of no force and effect?

Moreover, is it not true Doug that you obtained that favorable ruling in front of Judge Cooper's court under a number of false pretences?

However, once Darland and you had used me to get what you wanted out of Cooper, you chose to promptly dispose of me. Inter alia, you ensured that Cooper would deny me free speech so the truth could be buried together with my blogs on Google. 

Concurrently, you saw to it that your friend Cooper would also dispossess me of everything that I had worked for for over 20 years! Wow! And you Doug accomplished all that through your smoke screen Slothower within less than 30 minutes! Yes thirty minutes!!! 

That was truly a spectacular 'win' Doug! Especially since for health reasons I could not travel and be present in court! In the light of my absence you can surely be proud of yours and Sloth's performance.

On the other hand, on this last time round, obviously you could not pull any wool over Judge Sparks' eyes! Remains to see how you will fare in front of Washington Supreme Court, should you ever get there.  

My advice: You will definitely need to pull some new tricks out of your hat and create stronger illusions to go on feeding Darland's delusions. 

Otherwise, if you did not succeed to fool Judge  Sparks with your same repetitive old show, I personally fail to see how you will manage to con the sharp Judges of the Washington Supreme Court.

As I read through Judge Sparks' overarching thoughts, I was further impressed by another ball park strike Judge Sparks zeroed in on and scored:

THE PRICE:

Judge Sparks writes:

"The price of the property when Plaintiffs puchased it necessarily included every facet of that property;... There was then and is now no cognizable claim for recoupment of previously paid ULID assessments."

Obviously, not made privvy to a number of other facets of the transaction, Judge Sparks could not spell out some of those additional facets that were included in the price when the plaintiffs took that deed.

All, including Darland, recognized then that the price paid by Darland for all the benefits he got was extremely low compared to inherent value.

Darland had precisely knocked the price down from the asking price of $1,100,000 to $750,000 after Darland had been made fully aware of the difficulties involved and the hurdles to be jumped with regards to access, water, sewer easements and the availability of those services.

This explains why Darland, all along as well as in his answer to Interrogatories, asserted that he was fully qualified to solve all problems and turn this project into a multi multi million dollar development. To confirm his assertions, Darland writes:

"I did not see nor did I require any assistance to purchase this unique property. I, among other things have a graduate degree in urban and regional planning. I also have the ability to make judgments on land that has the potential to appreciate given the proper conditions. I purchase raw land. I also based on its location, zoning, other nearby development and what appeared to be based on verbal representation of payments approximately $500,000 to the 'Kitsap' treasurer on behalf of the SPUD for water and sewer connections that it had substantial value". (Emphasis added)

The Price:

How much did Michael L. Darland pay for the 76 acres of land including all its other assets on Snoqualmie Pass?

Darland only paid: $750,000.

On and above what Judge Sparks cited that was included with the deed, what else was also included in the low price paid by Darland?

And how much more did Darland NOT PAY for all else that was included with the total of the 76 acres?

1. Darland did not pay a penny towards the approximately $500,000 paid to the Snoqualmie Pass Utility District.

2. Darland did not pay a dime towards the value of the standing timber on the property estimated at the time at $650,000.

3. Darland did not pay a single red cent towards the expenses incurred with regards to rezoning the property. Approximately $50,000.

4. To crown it all and end it all, Darland did not ever even pay for the value of the 26 acres he had agreed to turn over to Leclezio as part consideration for Darland's purchase.  That was due to be either paid for upon a resale of the property or the 26 acres was due to be transferred over to Leclezio upon an acceptable Settlement Agreement being reached with the District. 

5. After Such an agreement, mostly written by Darland, was reached with the District, Darland reneged on his agreement with Leclezio! The value of the 26 acres at cost price back then was $260,000

6. Indeed by the time Darland made his purchase in 2003 my accountants had calculated that, with compounding interest, Miller and I had each invested $800,000, in that real estate 50/50 joint venture that we had purchased together in June 1989. That is  exactly 27 years ago.

So, let us recap:

Total additional value Darland received ENTIRELY FREE according to Darland's own estimation of values at the time of the transaction equals to a minimum of $1,460,000. That is almost double the amount Darland paid!

Well aware of that, no wonder that in one of his answers to the Interrogatories referred to above, at page 6, interrogatory # 9 Darland wrote:

"Key to the decision, were the verbal representations of Louis, regarding the approximately $500,000 that had been paid the SPUD for water and Sewer connections and the commercial zoning which the property had. I was also aware, based my experience in looking for raw land in Kittitas County, and the fact that Lowes was developing Suncadia, that raw land, zoned for development, and which also had water and sewer, were valuable commodities not to mention the proximity to the winter sports and public golf courses of Suncadia during the summer months."

At page 8 of the same Interrogatory document referred to above, Darland, in answer to Interrogatory # 11 gives us a glimpse of his perceived real value of the land he had purchased for $750,000 only! (Should I be writing 'stolen' instead.)

* "Based on recent land sales in the Suncadia development and our access with a 15 minute drive to the two public golf courses at Suncadia and our unique (not available to Suncadia) winter sports proximity to the Snoqualmie Pass and the Gold Valley at our back door, it is undeniable that our 230 lot potential development could provide us with gross revenues in the range of $34,500,000 if our building sites sold for an average of $150,000 each or as much as $57,500,000 if the average sale price of a building site were $250,000. The latest sales at Suncadia were at between $400,000 and $750,000 per building site. 

Question: Is unsatiable greed Darland's worst enemy?

Let us recap again:

Based on their investment of approximately $800,00, the Millers suffered a loss of $125,000 when they sold for and received $675,000 for their 50% share of the joint venture.

For my part, I trusted all of Darland's claims regarding his qualifications and ability to turn this project int a multi million dollar one and make us millions each.

So, while I still believed in Darland, I foolishly focussed on the carrot Darland kept dangling in front of me 

That carrot came in different shapes and sizes. For example, from time to time, Darland would send me his wild valuations of the property and coax me to keep my boat tied to his so he could maximize my investment alondside his.

In addition to all compelling evidence of Darland's blinding greed above, please Doug do not forget to also offer Darland's marketing publication as an exhibit to the Judges of Washington Supreme Court.

You could even quote some of Darland's statements in that 2007 publication which is still available on Darland's own www.snocadia.com site.

In  that publication some of the representations made by Darland that would be worth citing to the Washington Supreme Court are the following:

"The current owner spent the last four intervening years resolving outstanding legal, water, sewer and access issues..."

SnoCadia is the only Planned Unit Development, (PUD), on Snoqualmie pass that has all water and sewer hookups required for its development and it has them approved. (see Projected Land Use and Zoning Maps)."

"Predevelopment offering prices in the brochure link are related to single family building envelope pricing at $166,888 per building envelope. Condo envelopes are at a lesser price of $70,000 per envelope, but are available only in clusters of 10 Condo envelopes per cluster. It is envisioned that the condo clusters will be purchased by builders and/or investors who wish to avail themselves of the commercial zoning provisions for rental and fractional ownership sales."

"Due To An Overwhelming Response For Reservations We Are No Longer Accepting Reservations At These Prices

We have temporarily withdrawn advertising the availability of reservations for SnoCadia building envelopes.  You may feel free to complete reservation forms.  We will use the information you provide us and contact you when we are again ready to offer reservations."

At that time Darland did not even own the whole of the property free and clear!

Was Darland possibly putting the cart before the horse when he made those claims to the public?

Was Darland blue skying because he was so eager to sell what he did not own free and clear.

Or was it also because Darland was trying, through that publication to create an impression of horrendous value to help him in his negotiations with Washington State Department of Transportation and Trust for Public Lands?

Darland took chances. Darland lost.

But Darland being Darland, Darland has to always find a scape goat. Any scape goat will do. As long as the scape goats he pursues help Darland slaughter innocent sheep along the way to and through various Court arenas. 

While ignoring his own pride and greed, the more scape goats Darland can find, the more innocent sheep Darland can slaughter, the better Darland feels!

How right is William Popp Sr. of William Popp and associates, Bellevue, when he writes: "Darland will never admit that he is wrong?"

Doug, I am confident that based on all you will be offering to the Washington Supreme Court Judges by way of exhibits, arguments and ideas I have freely shared with you, that panel of learned Judges should get a real taste of who is Michael L. Darland land they should  feel very sorry for such a desperately poor individual.

Through your presentation, those Judges should be compelled to agree with Judge Sparks and with us that, to reach his various blue sky destinations, Darland stepped on a plane bound to nowhere. 

And in nowhere land there will definitely be "no need to have a trial about anything."

To be used in your final closing arguments, if you ever get in front of that panel of learned Judges sitting on Washington Supreme Court benches, I would like to ask you to prepare a declaration for me just like you used to do in the past.

In addition to my declaration, please feel free to also copy this particular blog and offer it as an exhibit in front of your future court arenas.

To help you prepare my declaration I would like you to state the following:

1. Although I am the claimant who paid the assessments in the past.

2. Although I am the one who suffered the loss of a $6 million sale as a result of SPUD's inability to perform.

3. Although I invested well over a million dollar in that project over more than 20 years.

4. Although I have lost it all, no thanks to you, during a 30 minute mock hearing.

5. Although I have been sick for the last ten years suffering from cancer and cardiomyopathy.

6. Although through your past actions, errors and ommissions, coupled with my deteriorating health I have been forced to live far from my 5 children and 26 grand children in order to enjoy totally free healh care, meds included.

I am no cry baby in need to pursue any kind of goat.

I understand that some business decisions are good and some are bad.

Today, after years of fighting Spud and their Saettle attorney Dan Mallove Esq. I learnt through the documents both sides filed in Court  that there were difficulties beyond anyone's direct control at the District.

I lost a lot of money but I am satisfied that the intent of the District, their commissioners and their attorney was not to defraud me. To err is human. 

I only lost money. May I never lose my soul over money.

That understanding allows me today to be joyfully reconciled with and at total peace with the Snoqualmie Pass Utility District.

By contrast, I still very much care not to lose a dime to Darland. Because Darland's main intent to defraud me at the end of the day, was premeditated and, in my opinion, involves outright theft by a cold calculating recidivist assissted by you.

HINDSIGHT:

a. Had I ever thought that the overly seemingly righteous Darland had no intention to deliver my 26 acres to me as part and parcel of the consideration, obviously, I would not have given away my land to him. It was strictly in lieue of that parcel of land that I agreed to receive virtually no cash upfront!

b. Had I not trusted Darland's assurances and loud claims about how qualified he was to add considerable value to the property and make me multi millions down stream, I would most certainly not have sold to him.

c. Had I not believed in the project, I would have obviously insisted being paid upfront, at least $675,000 which is the amount my 50% partner, Miller, walked away with. 

With hindsight, Miller was smart. I was a fool who made a bad business decision. I wanted to see my investment bear fruit rather than walk out of the orchard with no harvest.

With hindsight I can only blame my own stupidity for not doing my own due diligence to find out who I was getting in bed with.

So, accepting responsibility for my short comings, Douglas Warren Nicholson, I am not warring with you or Darland. 

I, simply only firmly believe in what Pope Paul VI said on October 4, 1965 at the United Nations:

"Peace is built up on the four columns of Truth, Justice, Love and Liberty."

Convinced of the above, I will seek peace through justice up to my last breath.

Pope Francis inspires me further when he says: 

"You cannot be in harmony with God if you are not in harmony with your neighbor."

Therefore, Doug, I am working hard on forgiving both Darland and you. When I leave for my final very long distance trip, I will choose to forget behind me the soiled and heavy baggage bearing the tag  'Darland' that you caused me to carry for so long.

Before ending I would like to quote a line from one of Darland's emails to me after he knew that I had cancer and was busy stealing my 26 acres while prematurely hammering nails in my coffin: "I hope you linger on for a long time..."

By the grace of God, I have lingered on for a very long time. I enjoyed using that long lingering time to surrender my sufferings for the salvation of all souls, including yours and mine.

By the grace of God, I hope to be able to sail through my final trip towards the Light, light hearted because I will be in harmony with all.

Are the claims filed by Michael L. Darland in papers in eastern Washington State in Ellensburg court in Kittitas county in accordance with his earlier publication on the web when Darland was actively trying to sell the property for a multi million dollar profit?

How can his representations to the public in 2007 and his statements under oath to the court in 2011 both be true?

If the statements made by Michael L Darland when he was endeavouring to sell the subject property to the general public, pretending that he owned said property free and clear are true, then, it is obvious that Mike Darland perjured himself in his sworn declaration to the court in 2011. 

Adding salt to injury, did Michael Darland also cause his long time friend and close neighbor, William Popp aka Bill Popp to also perjure himself in the sworn affidavit he coerced out of Popp?

It is most significant and worthy of note that those sworn representations made in front of retired judge Michael E. Cooper in Ellensburg Superior court only came some 8 years after Darland had  purchased the property from its original owner and had agreed to return 1/3 of the 76 acres to that original owner!

What is even more significant is that Darland's and Popp's novel sworn repesentations to the court only came 8 years after Darland and his friend Popp had thouroughly investigated the property!

And 4 years before making those sworn statements to a gullible and friendly judge, Darland had most actively engaged to sell the property:

a. To the public.

b. To real estate developpers and builders. 

c. To Washington State Department of Transportation.

d. To The Trust for Public land of Washington State.  (https://www.tpl.org) among others!

Aiming to make a killing and a multi million dollar profit trying to flog the property to all of the above, Darland was concurrently willfully attempting to defraud its original owner of the interest Darland had agreed to return to him as part consideration of the purchase price. In an even more fraudulent fashion,  Darland failed to disclose that he did not own the land free and clear throughout his marketing efforts and in his publications! Over a period of 8 years Michael L. Darland had brazenly and arrogantly represented to all parties:

a. That he was a knowledgeable investor.

b. That he held a degree in urban planning.

c. That with his qualifications and experience he was fully qualified to sail through the development of this property just like he had successfully done in Chile.

d. That with the marketing skills he had displayed with Digital Systems (including being sued by his investors for fraud) it would be most easy for him to realize a multi million dollar profit from this venture.

It is only after Darland pitifully failed to defraud all various parties over 8 years and realize his multi million dollar profit that Darland rewrote a novel self serving tale to the court, to above all cover his dirty tracks and conceal the light of the truth from all by denying his victim his sacred right to free speech!

It is only then that Darland chose to have recourse to that retired judge in that one horse town to finally deny me free speech on the Google international platform and concurrently defraud me of my long term investment involving hundreds of thousands of dollars and much time over many years!

To do so Darland hired the services of a most unethical and unscrupulous Ellensburg attorney, Douglas Warren Nicholson. Darland knew that Nicholson and Nicholson's associate Slothower were close to the judge and had his ear. 

Indeed, so close to that ear that the hearing to defraud me of my 1/3 interest and deny me free speech on the Google international platform lasted less than 30 minutes!!!

While Darland was assiduously defrauding me, over the last 15 years, I have had 3 cancer related surgeries. I have undergone chemotherapy treatment, I have spent numerous stays in various ICUs, all possibly related to Darland's uncontrollable greed and immoral character.

This is one of the reasons why I am committed to expose a naked Darland, stripped of all his pretences to the world.

My relentless quest for the exacting and rewarding truth is what has kept me fighting and alive by the grace of a justice loving God.

As I am writing this, I am suffering from arrythmia due to a cardiomiopathy condition.

I thank God for His kindness in granting these extended life leases to me.

I hope that I am using them wisely.

If nothing else, I would love nothing more than to hear, before my final hours come, that I have saved someone, anyone from being also defrauded by Michael L. Darland and spared any additional potential victim from going through what my 25 grand children, my 5 children and myself have suffered at the hands of Michael L. Darland. (Aka: Mike Darland)

I was not surprised to see that you reconnected with retired judge George Finkle. Was your latest effort to acquire control of REtitle yet another attempt by you to subvert the path of justice through the use of someone who has, for unknown reasons, granted you a sympathetic ear in the past?

How lucky of you to have once again found retired judge George Finkle to go your way and to temporarily approve your proposed purchase of Mason County Title Insurance Company! Did you truly find that specific judge by sheer coincidence?

Or, did you conveniently forget to disclose your past relationship with retired judge George Finkle before unnecessarily engaging all parties concerned in the expenses involved with those prolonged hearings?

What a fickle world we live in! 

You will surely recall that it was the same retired judge George Finkle who had, against all expectations, taken your side as officer of the First American Title Insurance Company in my solid case against them some 15 years ago.

You will no doubt, likewise remember that Steve Berman, one of the top 100 lawyers in the US had opined that my law suit against First American was a "No Lose Case". (See Berman letter below)

On this All Souls day, November 2, 2015, I rejoice at the thought that the initial conditional order granted to you on April 2, 2015, by said retired judge George Finkle was, luckily for all, finally vacated on October 21, 2015!!!

First ingredient:

1. Prayer.

Dictionary definition of prayer:

"Prayer is an invocation or act that seeks to activate a rapport with a deity, an object of worship, or a spiritual entity through deliberate communication".

In a display of total lack of faith in the power of God, that secular dictionary definition of prayer then turns to science to 'evaluate the efficacy of prayer' to 'a deity'. It refers to a 2006 scientific meta analysis of 14 studies that concluded and declared that there is no discernible evidence that prayer works. It further adds that a 2007 scientific systemic review of intercessory prayer also reported inconclusive results. As if to underscore its editor's personal lack of belief, it also contends that the most methodologically rigorous studies failed to produce significant findings on the power of prayer.

Unfortunately, that secular dictionary is deafeningly silent about any 'scientific' in depth theological real and reliable research that may have been conducted to establish what it takes for prayer to be or not to be heard and answered. 

In sharp contrast to the above shallow definition juxtaposed to superficial 'scientific conclusions' that deride the need to pray, Jesus not only exhorts us to pray, but He also spends much time teaching us where and how to pray. Jesus does so throughout his public life both by His words and by His numerous examples. 

While traveling and preaching throughout the countryside, we find Jesus praying on His own, (Matt. 14:23) praying with His disciples, praying to His Father for His followers and answering the prayers of His followers. Indeed, unto the very end of His public life on the cross, we find Jesus prayerfully appealing to His Father. It is right then that Jesus addresses His ultimate prayer from the cross to God. "Father, into Your hands I commit my spirit." (Luke. 23: 46); 

Thereafter the resurrection of Jesus is THE most resounding victory of the power of prayer and absolute trust in God's Wisdom and Will. That resurrection is the most compelling proof that in God's own time prayer for our ultimate good and to God's glory is ALWAYS answered. But only God best knows the most opportune time to acquiesce to our needs. Therefore we must also place all our trust in His omnipotent Wisdom and munificent agenda. 

Few examples of the power of faith in Jesus and how He answers prayer:

Matt. 4: 23-25; Matt. 5: 16; 42; 45; Matt. 6: 4; 6-13; Matt. 7: 7-11; Matt. 8: 2-3; Matt. 8: 5-13; Matt. 8: 16-17; Matt. 8: 25-27; Matt. 9: 2-8; Matt. 9: 18-22; Matt. 9: 27-34; Matt. 15: 22-28; Matt. 17: 19-20; Matt. 18: 19-20; Matt. 20: 32-34; Matt. 21: 22; Luke. 18: 1-8; Luke. 21: 34-36; Luke. 22: 40-46; 

Therefore in today's modern world, our own very old fashioned MKRLU teaches us to question the hidden aims of such simplistic definitions as well as the qualifications and the conclusions of such scientific studies emanating by those who pretend to belong to the erudite elite. 

In Mama Kaya's humble but well founded opinion the findings of those 'would be' lettered individuals are of a dubious nature. Those scientific studies show that they are based on little knowledge about how to distill prayer. About how to use its essence to formulate a 'magic potion' to ensure a long happy life. 

By sharp contrast with the opinion of the learned, we know Mama Kaya's persuasion to be anchored in well warranted long endured faith. Therefore we rather choose to believe that such a limited, dictionary definition accompanied by very restricted in scope 'scientific' conclusions are reached merely in an effort to be politically correct. Is it not yet another increasingly popular wishy washy attempt to be all things to all people in today's industrialized and commercialized world?

After all, on the one hand, does the dictionary not only look to sell its bindings to the world? 

On the other hand, in her virgin world, does Mama Kaya not only need to bind herself with both hands to the world of God?

Have we not a lot to learn from Mama Kaya's exemplary uncontaminated faith in God's Divine Providence and her absolute trust in His munificence?

Have we not a lot to learn from humble and gentle Mama Kaya and her 'blind' trust in the words of Jesus? 

Does Mama Kaya seem to know the teachings of Jesus instinctively? 

Or does Jesus simply speak silently to her heart?  

Does Jesus privately repeat to Mama Kaya what He told us in the Bible through His disciples:

"Come to me, all you who labour and are overburdened, and I will give you rest. Shoulder my yoke and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Yes, my yoke is easy and my burden light".

Why does Mama Kaya's teachings supersede any dictionary definition? 

1. If, as the dictionary would have us believe, prayer were no better than any snake oil so many people choose to believe in and to swallow in this modern 'scientific era', would Jesus exhort us to pray? 

2. Would Jesus who is the Truth, the Light and the Way lie to us about the merits and the fruits of prayer? 

3. How could Jesus have possibly lied to the world and yet survived the test of times for over two thousand years! 

Suffice, right here for Mama Kaya to humbly and simply teach that: 

"Faith in general is most real when and where all understanding fails!" 

Answer to prayer being answered is: FAITH!

That is why Mama Kaya continues to pray at 90 years old. That is why Mama Kaya is convinced that Jesus was right to exhort us to pray. That is also why the act of prayer has endured the test of times dating back to thousands of years before Christ.

In fact it is attested in written sources that anthropologists, such as Sir Edward Burnett Taylor and Sir James George Frazer believe that as early as 5000 years ago, the earliest intelligent modern humans instinctively practiced something that we would recognize today as prayer. That is long before Jesus personally taught us to pray.

Which are the prayers Mama Kaya recommend we say many times daily?

1. The Lord's prayer.

2. The Angelus.

Why?

Mama Kaya relies on both the teachings of Jesus and the church. Those teachings and prayer ensure that we make it through the eye of the needle into heaven. That way we will know happiness beginning on earth and lasting into eternity

What did Jesus teach about what prayer to say?

Matthew 6: 7-15. "When you pray, do not babble as the pagans do, for they think that by using many words they will make themselves heard. Do not be like them; your Father knows what you need before you ask Him."

"So you should pray like this:

Our Father in heaven,

May your name be held holy,

Your kingdom come,

Your Will be done,

On earth as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts,

As we have forgiven those who are in debt to us.

And do not put us to the test,

But save us from the evil one."

The Angelus:

V. The Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary,

R. And she conceived of the Holy Spirit.

Hail Mary, etc...

V. Behold the handmaid of the Lord.

R. Be it done unto me according to Your Word.

Hail Mary, etc...

V. And the Word was made flesh,

R. And dwelt among us.

Hail Mary, etc...

V. Pray for us, O holy Mother of God.

R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray:

Pour forth, we beseech You, O Lord,

Your Grace into our hearts;

that as we have known the incarnation of Christ,

your Son by the message of an angel,

so by His passion and cross

we may be brought to the glory of His Resurrection.

Through the same Christ, our Lord.

During our next course we will dissect the 'Our Father' and the Angelus in class. Hopefully, we will add some dimensions to it that you may have missed so far. Until then, while saying the Lord's Prayer and The Angelus, daily and often, we encourage you to note questions or elements of value you may be inspired to share with us during our next get together.

In conclusion, Mama Kaya who has lived all her life close to nature very simply points out that if any brainless plant life knows that it has to search for the light created by God and it must grow up towards it in order to embrace life to the full, how much more intent should we, thinking humans, be to rise up to God's Light every morning so we can best reflect His image daily.

It is clear that all those who have known Mama Kaya for years, also know that Mama Kaya has lived her life free from much outside source of interference. This appears to have empowered Mama Kaya to develop and enjoy the broadest band of clear direct communication with God. Does that explain how, although Mama Kaya is far from being an intellectual book worm, Mama Kaya, is inspired to know all that is worth knowing in order to enjoy a happy life free from harmful intrusions. Mama Kaya gives to God all the credit for her open lines of natural communication with all who surround her. 

Mama Kaya assures me that God grants around the clock clear communication coverage to all who wish to be protected under the umbrella of God's all encompassing and flawlessly connected network. According to Mama Kaya that 24 hour free service is so dependable because it is the only provider to combine a package of omnipotent wisdom and gratuitous love together.

Mama Kaya has vaguely heard of the Babel Tower confusion and collapse. She detects a marked difference between God's 'all languages' fully operational system throughout the ages and man's repeated attempts to creat new forms of Babel towers. 

Now, Mama Kaya says that she worries that another Babel tower era may be looming upon us. She is most concerned when she sees all the youth in Port Mathurin burying their heads in their smart phones. For she fears that those very same smart phones might eventually bury those heads buried in them. 

Mama Kaya professes not to be smart enough to handle such supposedly smart things. She humbly prefers her simple ways of reaching out and touching anyone anywhere at any time. Consumed only by the love of God and her constant, cost free, hands free communication with Him and  His creation through prayer, Mama Kaya fails to comprehend what can be so compelling about costly smart phone babbling as she calls it! 

Seeing into the future, Mama Kaya fears that the deified smart cell phones linked to the babble towers of the whole world may lead to the collapse of the simple world that she has known and loved so much. She is further concerned that 'smart' cell phones may engender a burgeoning community of depraved addicts. 

Speaking in a Jeremiah like prophetic tone, Mama Kaya warns that constant babbling is assuredly drawing the youth away from God. Indeed,  she thinks that most of the modern world, appears to be altogether so thoroughly absorbed by their recently developed and deified idol, the 'smart' phone, that in such a world of avid consumers, very few people find time to communicate hands free and free of charge with God. Yet, as the ultimate creator of all, Mama Kaya maintains that God alone is the only one truly in charge of our well being. 

Mama Kaya humbly prays that the youth that is being preyed upon so ardently by the disciples of the IT world, does not end up with a cell in hell. For Mama Kaya is convinced that such compulsive use of the tell it all, show it all and sell it all 'smart' cell phone could drive the world so far away from God that it will bring forth another  confusing and condemning Babel era.

At the Rodrigues Love University, not surprisingly, the word 'Love' keeps popping up in various questions. After my two previous posts, I received a number of requests to present the 'Love 101 Course' based on the curriculum of 'Mama Kaya Rodrigues Love University' -Established: 1924.

                                                         Love - Love - Love... 

Why does that word pop up so often on our campus?

Because:

a). That is what our University is all about. 

b) Love is associated with many aspects of our daily lives at home, at school, at university and in the work place.

In their search for the real meaning of the word love, our students often ask the following questions:

Who is Love? What is free Love? Why free Love? What is the origin of the word love? How is love defined? Which is the higher form of love?

Who is Love?

God is Love! Because we are created in His image, we are also meant to love and be loved. Therefore we reach our full potential and best reflect God's image when we rid ourselves of all hatred and live solely in His light to reflect His image of absolute love.

What is free love? 

It is the only form of true love. It cannot be bought for money nor bartered for favors. 

It is free because it is a gift from God to His creation.

Why should true love be free?

It has to be free. Because it is worth so much that it is priceless. 

If we had to attempt to put a price tag on the free gift of true love it would lead us to despair and hatred. Because we would quickly realize that we could never afford to buy that kind of infinite love. Indeed all the money in the world ever since the world began would never suffice to pay for true unconditional infinite love.

Therefore, it is because God does not want us to succumb to despair or to cultivate hatred that His merciful love has to be free.

What is the origin of the word Love? 

'Agape' is a greek word. It means selfless, sacrificial, unconditional love. It is the highest of the four types of love visited in the Bible

The English translation of the word 'agape' is love. 

In the New Testament, 'agape' refers to the covenant love of God for humans, as well as the human reciprocal love for God and neighbor.

What are the various definitions of love in the bible?

Bible definition: 

God Is Love as defined by his very nature. 

St. John's definition:

1 John 4:8 "God does not merely love; He is love. Everything that God does flows from His love."

John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life."

John 14:21 "Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them."

St. Paul's definition of Love:

1 Corinthians 13: 4-7: "4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

In the evening of our lives, we shall be judged according to our love for others throughout our lives.

Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition of love: 

(1) :  strong affection for another arising out of kinship or personal ties <maternal love for a child> (2) : attraction based on sexual desire :  affection and tenderness felt by lovers (3) :  affection based on admiration, benevolence, or common interests <love for his old schoolmates. 

The above are definitions of the word 'love' by the inspired disciples of God and by the  learned.

Now for the main exercise of this Love 101 course, we are to investigate the Biblical true meaning of the word love as opposed to the Merriam-Webster's dictionary definition. We are to do so under the limelight of Mama Kaya's living example under study below:

In the evening of her life, although Mama Kaya is mostly illiterate, what is her authentic definition of love by her actions and her words?

On the occasion of her 90th. birthday, during her party, I asked Mama Kaya to specifically clarify the word 'Love' for me.

Most happy to do so, Mama Kaya launched in her favorite subject right off the bat. Without a single pause to catch her breath and without taking any time to think or search for words, Mama Kaya spoke convincingly straight from her heart. It was blatantly evident that Mama Kaya lives her true love for God and neighbor so intensely, that at 90 years old, while nailing down the real meaning of love for me, she appeared completely oblivious to the loud music, the otherwise distracting brouhaha of the conversations that filled the space and the general effervescence all around her. In her passionate expose, Mama Kaya was 'the' only all effervescent 'cure it all' pill for the modern 'love' ills of our times. 

The following is a translated transcript of the recorded video of Mama Kaya's appreciation of 'love':

"I am thankful I have reached this age today. I am still here solely thanks to God and Jesus. 

He has given me His love to return to Him and share with my family and my neighbors.

I have had to count on God's love every minute of my life to be able to feed my 12 children and all of my grand children. I enjoy sacrificing and taking care of all of them because that is what God wants me to do. That is the least I can do in return for Him who has done so much for me.

I do not need to go into details about all He has done for me. That would be construed as boastful. Only look at the greatest sacrifice He has done for me and you and all of us here. God has sacrificed His only son Jesus and He even put Him on the cross for us! That is the ultimate form of love.

From that cross, every day, Jesus always watches over me and He guides me. He gives me courage to go on and on and on...

Over the years, Jesus has often given me additional unexpected gifts. Look! Now, even in my old age I have had another son and another daughter. That extra gift was so we can guide each other towards His infinite love. Jesus knows that the more of us are together, the stronger we are to encourage each other to reach our final destination.

Do you know why I have reached 90? Because in all things I am thankful. I have no hatred in my heart. Hatred makes you feel old quickly and it also makes you irritable all the time. Hatred is the mother of harmful stress in life. Stress born from hatred eventually kills you. 

Breathe, eat and share love and you will be happy. Breathe, eat and talk hatred and you will be unhappy. Before you choose between what to breathe - Remember: Our ultimate goal in life is lasting happiness.

That is why especially tonight, and every night, I am happy. I thank God for my happiness. I am happy and thankful for living through another day. I am thankful to God, thankful to Father Laval, thankful to all for all. 

Perseverance in love and constant thanksgiving addressed to God, that is the secret of my long happy life. How could I ever not appreciate, forget and dismiss the love of Jesus who died for me on the cross!" All who want to live a happy life must begin and end each day by loving and thanking Jesus for  dying on the cross for the love of us.

Mama Kaya had said it all. She ended abruptly by saying: "That is all I have to say. Now, give me a glass of champagne and let us drink to the love of Jesus."

(The words in bold are those Mama Kaya put emphasis on by the tone of her voice.) 

Wow! Yes! "Mama Kaya! Thank you for teaching me/us all, on this memorable night, never to forget the infinite love of Jesus for us. You are so right in your understanding of true love! Both in His words and His actions, Jesus taught us that: "There is no greater love than to give one's life for our loved ones." You are right on. In an unselfish display of absolute unconditional love Jesus freely accepted to die for us on the cross! How could we ever forget the infinite, profound true love that it took for the son of God to willingly accept to be crucified on a cross for the love and redemption of sinful humans like us! 

Mama Kaya, you must be a saint to inherently and intimately understand the true meaning of love so thoroughly! You remind me a lot of what St. Francis had to say about love? He said: "It is in dying that we are born to eternal life." To end up having a pure virgin like heart such as yours, filled with so much joyful love in spite of all the obvious hardships you have been through, dear Mama Kaya, you must have died to yourself over and over again many times. You must have repeatedly died to your own wants and even to your own basic needs so that all around you would continue to have life!

Is Mama Kaya's love of a Biblical or a secular nature?

Let us examine what parallels can be drawn between St. Paul's definition of love in 1 Corinthians 13: 4-7 and Mama Kaya's daily commitment to love throughout her long life?

St Paul: "Love is patient": - Over the last many decades just how much patience has Mama Kaya needed in order to lovingly care for her children, her grand children, her great grand children and a multitude of neighbors.

St. Paul: "Love is kind": - It is glaringly evident that kindness must be at the very root of the self confidence that most of Mama Kaya's children, grand children and great grand children exude. Their winning attitude and success in life, their lasting devotion and meaningful gratitude to their elderly Mama Kaya speaks volumes about the love, the patience, the kindness they have obviously received from Mama Kaya from the cradle up! It is edifying today to see to what extent each and every single one  of them unstintingly return that love to her 

St. Paul: "Love does not envy": - Envy is the source of all hatred. Mama Kaya's long life gives vibrant testimony to the intrinsic truth that she harbors no hatred towards anyone or anything. Freedom from envy and hatred empowers Mama Kaya to be naturally and continuously thankful for all of God's caring Providence.

St. Paul: "Love does not boast": - At 68, I cannot recall ever finding such down to earth fascinating and exemplary humility as I have found in the home and heart of Mama Kaya. What you see is what you get. And every one who visits Mama Kaya wants to soak in every bit of that humble abandonment to living entirely by God's Will.

St. Paul: "Love is not proud": - The only sense of pride Mama Kaya manifests is strictly for the love she has for God, her family and her neighbors. Mama Kaya is proud to be able to love so meaningfully. IMHO - That is healthy pride. It is worthy of note.

St. Paul: "Love does not dishonor others":  - My wife and I were originally regarded as strangers 'banne tranzer' upon our arrival seven years ago in Allee Tamarin, Rodrigues. This old long established tightly knitted community is made up of a number of families that seek to preserve their treasured proud Rodrigues identity. It is a society that is free of transients. Every new house built in our neighborhood systematically belongs to the child or grand child or great grand child of some local patriarch or matriarch. 

Yet, seven years ago, the fact that we were newly arrived 'flies on the ointment' did not deter Mama Kaya from offering us a warm welcome. It was foreign to Mama Kaya's loving heart to dishonor 'foreigners' 'banne tranzer' as we were initially referred to. Offering us a warm welcome, Mama Kaya would come to visit us and make us feel part of her Philippe family. In a charismatic display that could only come naturally from her undefiled heart, Mama Kaya would often raise her arms to heaven saying: "Praise God, you are here. In my old age God has given me a new son and a new daughter to come and live in my own neighborhood! Alleluia! Alleluia!"

The same warm welcome and humble thanksgiving were bestowed upon my daughter, Lynda, and my grand daughter, Wendy, by Mama Kaya when they came to visit Rodrigues recently and discover its unique 'Mama Kaya Love University'. During our visit, Mama Kaya told us: no matter where your daughter and grand daughter live, Love makes us all one with God and with each other. He is our father. We are His family whether we live in Rodrigues or across the sea.

St. Paul: "Love is not self seeking": - Mama Kaya never seeks any self glorification. Instead, she always gives all glory to God. She never seeks anything as she relies with blind faith on God's munificence and providence! After observing Mama Kaya for seven years, I often regard her as a living personification of St. Francis. Mama Kaya personnifies the lines of the prayer of St. Francis: "It is in giving that we receive..." Mama Kaya is always giving. Even in the middle of her party, at 90 years old, Mama Kaya was thoughtful enough to tell me: "I am sorry my daughter (meaning my wife) had to go to Mauritius and could not attend my party. But please assure her that as soon as she gets back, I will bake another birthday cake especially for her." It is clear that in giving constantly, Mama Kaya receives much from God. We have never seen her deep well of love and joy ever run dry! 

St. Paul: "Love is not easily angered.": During the past seven years  we have lived close to Mama Kaya. During that time, we have never seen her angry or speak angrily to or about anyone. Could that be another secret of her blissful longevity?

St. Paul: "Love keeps no record of wrongs.": Forgive and forget (certainly not due to her old age) seems to be the motto Mama Kaya lives by. We have never heard Mama Kaya condemn anyone or bear a grudge towards someone! Whenever, we listen to Mama Kaya talk, we are reminded of the saying: "If you have nothing good to say, you better not speak at all." Mama Kaya will only say good things about all the neighborhood.

St. Paul: "Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth." Obviously living in God's light and under His mantle of love, Mama Kaya has rejoiced in His truth and shunned evil all her life? Had Mama Kaya not lived according to God's Will, how could she be the inspiring highly respected figure that she is today for our entire community? Full of God's love, Mama Kaya instinctively knows that to reach the City of God she only has to follow His Light, His Truth and His Way.

St. Paul: "Love always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres." Mama Kaya has unfailingly protected her progeny over three generations. Mama Kaya has persevered relentlessly with her well placed trust in God's Will and Providence. With so much blind faith in God and by the power of her wrists and the pouring sweat off her forehead Mama Kaya has managed to suffice to the every daily needs of her descendants. Their winning attitude towards life today is vibrant living testimony to the protection, the trust, the hope and the perseverance Mama Kaya has permanently displayed as examples in front of them. 

Who could ever dismiss such a powerful and irresistible living example of love coming so naturally and with so much authenticity straight from the heart of the most senior dean of the love department at Mama Kaya Love University - Rodrigues - Established: 1924!

Because Mama Kaya's Love University in Rodrigues fascinates me so much, I am seeking a permanent lecturer's position within its fast expanding love department.

I hope and pray that I can teach there while pursuing my 'hands on' studies towards a master's degree in how to reach Mama Kaya's level of love that makes all things possible!

Conclusion:

Questions: 

Is Mama Kaya living proof that Biblical long lasting love far surpasses any form of ephemeral secular love? Simple answer: Yes!

Is the supernatural nature of Biblical love as exemplified by Mama Kaya's long life the key ingredient to lasting eventual eternal joy?

Answer: 

The proof of the pudding is in the eating. Because I am convinced that Mama Kaya's supernatural form of love is the key to eternal joy, it is no wonder that if there is one living person I would want to emulate today, it would be Mama Kaya. I have already mentioned how through her exemplary love and commitment to her tightly knit, yet much extended family life, I am vicariously living my own original dream for how to spend the evening of my life. Obviously because I lacked supernatural Biblical love, even with education supplemented by lots of material means, I failed to realize my dream for my family. By contrast with basic instruction and in the midst of utter poverty, but obviously with a heart filled with supernatural Biblical form of love, Mama Kaya has succeeded to unwittingly realize my dream beyond my dream!

To further hammer the point home the question will be asked and answered again:

 

Why did Mama Kaya succeed with no meaningful material means and little literacy where this fledgling lecturer failed with millions of dollars and much education?

Simple obvious answer: Neither money nor brains, but Love (God) alone makes all things possible.

Thanksgiving:

It took a 90 year old most noble and grand illiterate lady to open my eyes, my ears, my mind, my heart and above all my spirit to the sheer power of the love. Mama Kaya reflects that power straight from the Sacred Heart of Jesus!

Alleluia! Alleluia! Praise be to God! Today, I am most thankful to God for leading me patiently through any number of sinuous unchartered paths to Rodrigues,  if only to let me witness the power of His true love that makes all things possible.

Final observation: 

Is it not very revealing to note that persons who reach an advanced age give all tribute and credit to God for reaching their age! Over the last few years, most if not all the elderly that I have seen interviewed on the MBC TV have attributed their longevity to their faith in God and the reciprocal love they share with Him regardless of their religious denomination!
